Nokia Data Gathering
Short description:
Nokia Data Gathering is an Open Source solution that allows organizations to collect data using mobile phones and gather it for further analysis in real time. This is particularly suitable for those cases which involve field agents gathering data outside of their company’s premises, such as opinion pools, surveys, water/gas/electricity meters reading collection. Collecting information is realized though a mobile device which is fast, accurate and cost-effective. The solution includes mobile endpoint software used by field personnel and a web-based application to create and distribute questionnaires as well as to validate and analyze aggregated data.
Product details
Nokia Data gathering implements the following usage scenarios:
- Design a data collection form or a survey
- Distribute data collection questionnaires to mobile endpoints
- Collect data on a mobile device and send it to a centralized server
- Aggregate, analyze and visualize collected data
Nokia Data Gathering building blocks include advanced survey authoring and data analysis web-based application to create and analyze survey data as well as an ergonomic, easy-to-use mobile data collection endpoint that runs on a mobile phone and that is used by interviewers working in the field.
Survey Authoring and Data Analysis
The web-based survey authoring & data analyzing tool is used to design surveys, send them to mobile phones of interviewers working in the field and later on to receive, validate & visualize collected data.
The survey creation tool allows to create questions that receive responses of numeric, date, time, multiple choice, exclusive multiple choice and free text type. Conditional questions that are triggered by responses to other questions are also supported. Survey definition and the delivery mechanism is compliant with OpenRosa industry standards.
Data received from field personnel is stored in the server’s data base and can be later easily exported further to CSV and Excel formats. Data that includes location information can also be visualized on a map.
Tools for administrator users, devices, questionnaires and responses are also provided.
Mobile Data Collection Endpoint
The mobile data collection tool is an application that runs on mobile devices and is used to collect data in questionnaires, previously defined by means of web tools, and to submit the collected data back to the server. Mobile endpoint uses a data network (the Internet) to communicate with a server but in cases where there is no data network coverage, the collected data can be stored in a phone for later use. It is also possible to send date via a WLAN access point or to connect a phone to a PC and send data via a wired network.
The Mobile Data Collection Endpoint runs on Java Micro Edition (Java ME), which means it can be ported to any mobile phone that runs on Java. We recommend phones which have a full QWERTY keypad, an in-built GPS chip for accurate location data, a large screen for easyuse, a camera and long battery life in order to take full advantage of the application’s features.
